Rio Grande Valley, South Texas IWW Declares Commitment to the Dialogue and Movement for Human Rights in Our Border Communities

From the IWW - Rio Grande Valley, South Texas

Members and Friends of the IWW: It was decided at the last IWW-RGV (South Texas) General Membership meeting to affiliate ourselves with the Human Rights Coalition of South Texas. This is a declared autonomous group "committed to the dialogue and movement for Human Rights in our Border Communities".

We will be working with the Coalition in the coming days to address the current crisis in our country involving immigrants in our communities and refugees fleeing violence from their home countries. We want to let the United States government know that they have an obligation to these children and families seeking human compassion. The Coalition is demanding humane immigration policies for those fleeing violence in Central America and regions of Mexico and seeks Extended Deferred Action to longtime, hardworking settled families who are under fear of deportation. As Industrial Workers of the World that view the working class as borderless and are conscious of the fact that U.S. political borders in the South only augment extreme capitalist exploitation of our sisters and brothers through out Latin America - we ask that you also stand in solidarity.

We ask you to organize a vigil or public action, in your home region, on August 9th, 2014. IWW-RGV, along with Human Rights Coalition of South Texas, will be holding an action on this day. Other groups and networks around the country are also being asked to participate.
