WHAT: After being led to believe that their fight for equal pay was over and won, Cal students employed by Cal Dining learned today that they are still paid less than their coworkers. Though Cal students received a raise in July to $11.25/hour (starting pay), other workers, including high school students, are now getting paid a starting wage as high as $11.93/hour.
“It’s just sad,” said Foothill Dining Commons employee and Student Worker Action Group (SWAG) member Tristan Bunner, “We thought that this was over and done with and had moved on to other demands, only to learn that we had been mislead. We’re back to square one when it comes to our fight with UC.”

A Book Review of “The People Decide: Oaxaca’s Popular Assembly” by Nancy Davies
By Paul Bocking
- The Industrial Worker, August 23, 2007
The popular uprising in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca was one of this country’s biggest untold stories from 2006, a precipitous year full of protests, strikes and repression across the nation. The People Decide is a diary-like compilation by Nancy Davies of day to day first-person news stories chronicling the movement led by the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO) and the state local of the national teacher’s union, for the ousting of an authoritarian governor and the creation of a truly democratic society led by the poor Indigenous majority. Davies is an American retiree who has lived in Oaxaca for the past eight years. These reports on the struggle unfolding around her were published online at narconews.com in English, and subsequently translated into Spanish and other languages.

RECENT UPDATES
I.W.W. Victory: Jacky's Galaxy Discontinues Business With Dragonland Trading Inc.
On Thursday August 16, 2007, "Jacky Ko", members of the Industrial Workers of the World and their respective lawyers appeared in Superior Court in Providence. Under oath, Ko stated that he no longer does, nor will he ever again, knowingly do business with Dragonland. Considering Ko stated this under oath, the IWW considers this sufficient evidence of Ko's divestment.
Furthermore, New Buffet restaurant in Providence confirmed that they have also divested in Dragonland. This is a clear and absolute victory for the IWW, union rank and file at Dragonland and Alexandra Svoboda, who was brutalized on the picket line. Alex will undergo her third surgery tomorrow at RI Hopital and will be operated on at least one more time.
