Request an IWW.ORG Email List

The IWW offers its members both internal and public email lists for the purposes of fostering communications among members of IWW Branches, Caucuses, Committees, Industrial Unions, Organizing Campaigns, Regional Administrations, and Shops.

If you are a member in good standing and would like to request the creation of an email list, you may do so here, but first be aware of the following conditions and procedures:

(1) All lists must be administered by dues paying IWW members in good standing.

(2) List administration duties include list maintenance, handling subscription / unsubscription requests, handling any held postings, and keeping the list functional and on-topic. It is recommended that all subscribers to email lists provide their name and membership number and that the list administrator list this data with the individual subscribers' email addresses.

(3) Lists must be relevant to the IWW and remain on-topic.

(4) Lists may be open to non IWW members, as long as they are maintained by IWW members in good standing. It is recommended that only members be allowed to post content to such lists unmoderated and that all non-members have their posting privileges set to "moderated".

(5) Lists not used for more than 12 months shall be considered abandoned and shut down.

(6) List defaults for all lists will be set so that unsolicited email from non-subscribers will be automatically discarded, subscription requests shall require list administrator approval and confirmation from the subscriber, and list archives shall be open to subscribers only. This policy is intended to protect the privacy of list subscribers and prevent spam.

(7) List defaults for all public lists will be set so that only the administrators can see the subscription list and so that posts appear to come from the list itself, and not the individual poster. The email list will be visible to the public from the website http://lists.iww.org/. This policy is intended to protect the privacy of dues paying IWW members from potential snoops, but allow potential supporters to find the public email list.

(8) List defaults for all internal lists will be set so that subscribers can see the subscription list and so that posts appear to come from the list itself, and not the individual poster. The email list will not be visible to the public, even from the website http://lists.iww.org/. This policy is intended to protect the privacy of dues paying IWW members from potential snoops and to help minimize flame wars.

(9) All list admins will be subscribed to the email list [email protected]. This list exists for the sole purpose of communicating information to list administrators about lists.iww.org network status. Subscription to this email list by list administrators is required without exception. If you ask to be unsubscribed from this list, we will assume you are resigning as list administrator.

(10) Remember that all email lists end in "lists.iww.org" not simply "iww.org".

(11) Email lists will not be set up for discussion topics or non-IWW related matters.  Discussions on issues should take place in the iww.org web forums.

(12) If you would like to set up a new IWW email list, please complete the webform below. Be prepared to give your name, IWW membership number, a telephone number where you can be reached, your email address, and the name and subject of your email list.
